Catch a Glimpse

When you catch a glimpse in the first mirror you’ve trusted in three days

and somehow touching your own face is comforting —

you understand that there are better days.

“Baby girl” becomes what he calls you out of excitement for the future

rather than an edge of disappointed kindness followed by a pause that sounds like this “…”

Every word you shoot back and forth is no longer a panic, angst, anger —

you get excited.

Don’t forget that you can now shower —

oh the warm water like magic fingers splashing over your grinning face!

When you forget why the don’t – don’t – don’t  became the yes – yes – yes…

and when you sit in front of your fairy godmother and spread your arms,

confused but oh so happy.
